A Healthy Diet
People have different interpretations of what actually makes a healthy diet. Some start counting calories, others change meal portions, while others decrease carbohydrate intake. Try visiting your local bookstore, and you will see rows and rows of books on healthy diets. With all the trends and fad diets prevalent today, it’s hard for us to know exactly what a healthy diet is. What a lot of people don’t realize is, it is not just about the portions, but the quality of what goes into our bodies. The words “healthy diet” can be thrown very loosely with so many different food options. A microwave dinner with vegetables may be easily named a “healthy” dinner, but it does not necessarily mean that it is actually good for our bodies. The Standard American Diet has labeled several types of food as healthy, but the more pertinent question is why we are not able to see or feel those results. Living a healthy life with a healthy diet does not have to be confusing at all. While it may seem tempting to catch on the latest diet craze and starve ourselves to lose weight, this is not going to be a long term, sustainable solution. Everything in moderation is still a key in maintaining a balanced and healthy diet. Eating fresh fruits and vegetables, combined with the right amounts of protein and whole grains, and limiting sugars, fats, and chemicals, is what keeps us healthy. Many people get sick due to cancer, diabetes and other illnesses, and rely on medicine to keep them healthy, but you can actually prevent yourself from getting sick just by choosing your diet wisely. Do not be confused by nutritional supplements that are being sold in the market today. Make sure that you are able to take your meals regularly and combine that with the right amount of exercise. |
