Infertility is defined as not having a baby after at least one year of trying. This definition is a bit harsh, since many couples can try for years before they finally conceive. None-the-less, most of the physical causes for infertility can be cured with certain infertility treatments. If you have problems conceiving a baby, this article will help you with tips about fertility treatments. We will discuss the many available infertility treatments available today. These include infertility drugs, surgery, intrauterine insemination, in vitro fertilization, gamete intrafallopian transfer, intracyctoplastic sperm injection, donor sperm, egg donation, surrogacy.

Fertility drugs as a fertility treatment involves taking clomifene pills, and hMG (human Menopausal Gonadotrophin) injection. The treatments regulate the sexual hormones, and cause more eggs to be released per cycle. The effectiveness of these treatments is relatively low, and is rated at up to 50 percent for Clomid, and up to 14 percent for hMG.

Surgery is an often chosen fertility treatment option, and is aimed at releasing the fallopian tubes or removing endometrial scarring . This can increase – depending on the severity of the problem – the chance of getting pregnant.

Intrauterine insemination (known as IUI) is a procedure that uses a catheter to inject a huge dose of sperm into the uterus. This will increase your chances of conceiving by about 10 percent.

In vitro fertilization (known as IVF) is also a fertility treatment procedure. In this case the eggs, removed from the ovaries, are fertilized, and the embryos which result get transplanted back into the uterus. This  treatment can increase the chances of conceiving up to 40 percent, depending on the age of the mother.

Gamete intrafallopian transfer (known as GIFT) treatment involves the removed egg and donated sperm being introduced to each other in a laboratory, but  the fertilization happens in the body. This fertility treatment can increase your chances of conceiving by up to 30 percent.

Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ISCI) means that a single egg gets a single sperm injected and the resulted embryo is transplanted into the uterus. This fertility treatment can increase the chances of getting pregnant up to 30 percent, depending on the age of the woman.

Donor sperm treatment is a procedure in which donated sperm is used in an intrauterine insemination, but in vitro fertilization treatment with donor sperm can be used at the woman’s request. The chances of getting pregnant are increased by about 14 percent, again the woman’s age is a large factor.

In some cases, an acceptable egg from the prospective mother is not available, and a donor egg is needed. The donor egg is fertilized and placed into the uterus of the prospective mother. As with the in vitro fertilization treatment, this one is increases, up to 40 percent, the chances of having a baby.

In other cases, when the woman’s body is incapable of carrying a pregnancy to term, surrogacy can be used as a fertility treatment. This means that another woman carries the embryo. Communication is important in this treatment, because your baby is carried by someone you carefully choose.

Many factors, like age, health, and diet can affect a woman’s fertility. Talk to your doctor and other health professionals before deciding on a treatment that is appropriate for you.
