Treating Obesity
The best way to treat obesity is to burn calories through exercise. As you eat, you take in calories. If you eat more calories than you burn, your body will store the excess as fat. Unless you find a way to burn both, the calories you eat everyday, and stored fat from over-consumption, you will eventually become obese. Obesity is different than just being overweight. An obese person has a significantly high percentage of fat on his or her body. Often, weight loss at the stage when one has become obese requires help from a doctor or other, trained, obesity professional. When an obese person decides he or she wants to lose weight, it is best to start with a health evaluation. Your doctor can give you a light exercise routine to begin with, which will gradually become more strenuous. Your doctor can also help you be certain that you are not suffering from a thyroid problem or from pre-diabetes, which are common in obese people. In addition to exercise, and a possible prescription, your doctor can discuss your diet with you and prescribe certain foods. Learning to eat right, and in the right portions, is extremely important for losing weight. The best thing to keep in mind is that diet alone, nor exercise alone, will help you lose weight. Exercise and diet must be combined to improve your health and help you shed pounds. Treating obesity is difficult to do alone. For this reason, there are groups and programs designed to support obese people as they try to lose weight. Their goal is to help you, and you will feel much better seeing people with the same problem and sharing your struggle. Other tips to help treat obesity are, eating a variety of healthy food, attempting to make 60 to 70 percent of your diet raw, eating slowly and mindfully, so that your focus is not elsewhere while you eat, and keeping track of calories. Fast eaters tend to eat more, because they usually take in more calories before their bodies are able to recognize that the stomach is full and trigger the body that no more food is necessary. Also, eating a variety of foods, from each food group, and avoiding sugars and fried foods will be a huge help as you try to lose weight. A mostly raw diet provides you with greater nutrients and enzymes to help you burn fat and repair tissue. Obesity is a difficult disease, but it is not impossible to fight. Getting proper advice from your doctor and finding a support group are two essential steps to dealing with obesity. The hardest part is sticking with a diet and exercise routine while recognizing it took years for you to become obese, and it will take a long time for you to lose weight and feel good again. |
